New Chester plant-based eatery & cocktail bar opens for business online (for now)

A new plant-based eatery and cocktail bar in Chester is now open for business – but will operate a takeaway service during the current coronavirus crisis.

Shrub was due to open in the former House premises on Eastgate Row in April, with its staff aiming to create of ‘modern café culture’ where customers can sit with a good book, their laptop and friends to enjoy good beer, cocktails, coffee or tasty food, whether it be at 11am or 11pm.

But after all restaurants, bars and pubs were ordered to close their doors due to the coronavirus pandemic, owners Calum Adams, Sammy Sale and Natasha Dignam were ‘devastated’ to have to put the opening on hold.

However, they have been hard at work setting up the Shrub Takeaway menu to give customers a taste of things to come.

The new menu features plant-based main dishes including Thai red curry, Singapore noodles, calzone and doner kebab.

There are also salads, mushroom calamari and nibbles like hummus, cauli-bites and filo cigars, and sweet potato brownies for dessert.

The food is available to order via email, Facebook or Instagram or by calling 07515760224. Shrub is also open for collection on Fridays from 6pm-9pm and Saturdays from 6pm-9pm.

All orders will follow social distancing guidance and payments can be made on collection with either cash or card.

Shrub’s food is entirely plant-based ‘with no preach’ – and staff focus on quality produce and consciously sourced ingredients.
