Kona Ice Truck Halloween Costume

This year, we are doing a food truck theme for Halloween! My childhood best friend is coming to visit and we are all participating. My youngest really wanted a McDonald’s food truck costume, and my BFF’s youngest wanted to be a pizza truck, and my oldest wanted to be a shaved ice truck. We had a Kona Ice truck almost every year for her birthday in July. It was the best! So today I wanted to share the Kona Ice Truck Halloween Costume.

Easy Cardboard Truck Costume

Before we get started, here are our family Halloween costumes from past years:

Tips and Tricks:

Since I have a video tutorial, I thought I’d put together some tips and tricks to help you make your own Kona Ice truck.

  1. You can make these in any size. Save the unused flaps to use as reinforcements for the wheels, ribbon straps, and even as a paint pallet.
  2. Packing tape was used to attach the truck front.
  3. I downloaded images to decorate this costume, resized them and print them out.
  4. The countertop is made of foam board. Simple measure and hot glue it on. I covered it with bamboo patterned background I found online. I the same pattern for the awning and use hot glue to attach it.
  5. For the wheels, I used paper plates painted black and added circles with red and white paper. We used a craft punch to punch out the circles. If you don’t have one, just trace a round object and cut it out. You can also use bottle caps.
  6. For the straps, measure the size you need. Hot glue them on, then to reinforce it, hot glue another scrap rectangle piece of cardboard over the strap to hold it in place.
  7. If the straps slide off your shoulders, take a third piece of ribbon to tie a bow in the back, bringing the straps together. You may need one for the front as well.
  8. I made my own license plate on a free editing software.
  9. For added detail, I found images online and cut out Kona Ice logos, beach themed backgrounds, palm leaves, Kona Ice menus, and the Kona Ice penguin. All were printed on cardstock paper and glued on with hot glue.
