How to Make a Christmas Snow Globe Shaker Card

Create a Christmas card with a difference this festive season with a helping hand from this step-by-step guide. Shaker cards are perfect for recipients of all ages and are ideal for using up glitter, sequins and card scraps when thinking about the shaker contents.

You Will Need

Craft Essentials

How to Make

  1. Use your Cricut to write the sentiment onto a 6 x 6″ square of black cardstock with a silver Cricut pen.

Top tip: If you don’t have a Cricut machine you could practice your brush lettering and add your greeting by hand.

2. Add a red cardstock layer to the back of the black cardstock, so that there is a small red border showing. Adhere the panel to a white 8 x 8″ card blank trimmed down to 7.5″ square.

3. Die cut the snowglobe die design from white, green, red, kraft and silver cardstock, taking extra care to ensure all of the negative pieces from the die (the bits you’d usually through away) are kept to one side.

4. Mount the white die-cut onto a white card circle created using your Cricut machine.

Top tip: if you do not have a Cricut machine, nesting circle dies can be used for this step.

5. Take the waste trees from the green die-cut and insert into the spaces on the white die-cut, using a glue pen to secure them in place.

6. Using a sharp, small pair of scissors, carefully snip away the deer from the kraft die-cut and attach to the white die-cut.

7. Add the red breast of the bird to the white die-cut.

8. Fussy-cut four little houses from the ‘HoHoHo’ paper pad and add this to the scene.

9. Cut out five simple circle frames using the Cricut (or nesting dies using your die-cutting machine), and stack four of the five circles one on top of the other using a glue pen, put the remaining circle to one side for later. Secure the circle stack to the front of the circle cut in step four using foam tape to create a ‘well’.

10. Sprinkle the shaker contents into the ‘well’, I added silver sequins and silver stars. Freehand cut a circle of acetate to add to the top of the circle stack. Add the remaining circle, making sure to align it with those underneath it.

11. Secure the snow globe to the card base using double-sided tape.

12. Die cut the snow globe once more, this time from silver mirror card. Fussy-cut away the base and adhere it to the base of the snow globe with foam pads. Use waste die-cut to decorate the base of the snow globe, adhering the elements with a glue pen.

13. Adhere the fully constructed snow globe to the prepared card blank using adhesive foam pads.
